New Mexico State Senator Steve Neville, whose distinguished career spans over three decades, will take the commencement stage as the keynote speaker for this year’s SJC graduation ceremony.
Neville began his academic journey at New Mexico State University, earning his Bachelor of Science in agronomy and genetics, and a Master’s in agricultural economics and animal science.
Neville has a long history of public service and community involvement and has served as the New Mexico District 2 state senator since 2005. Neville has contributed significantly to various legislative bodies and committees, held leadership positions including Senate Republican Caucus Chair and New Mexico Association of Counties president. He has been actively involved in numerous boards and organizations including serving as a San Juan County commissioner for seven years, twice as chairman.
Neville had a long career in the real estate appraisal business before retiring a few years ago. He announced his retirement from public service earlier this year, opting not to seek re-election to the New Mexico State Senate. Neville expresses deep gratitude for his time in the legislature and says he is now eager to spend more time with his family, including his wife Tammy, five children, and six grandchildren. Two of their daughters, and Tammy, graduated from San Juan College.
Neville is ready to pass the torch on to the next generation of leadership and says, “As I look ahead to the future, I am hopeful for the future of our state. After more than 30 years of public service, I have been privileged to lead in the areas of finance, conservation, small business, transparency, and education. In my final months as your State Senator, I pledge to continue to represent the people of San Juan County,” added Senator Neville.
