Are you fascinated by space exploration and the wonders of the universe?
Join the San Juan College Planetarium for its next AstroFriday event, featuring the presentation, "The Eagle Has Landed: The Flight of Apollo 11". This special event will occur on Friday, September 13, with showtimes at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Commemorating the First Moon Landing
Celebrate the first manned moon landing, which occurred 55 years ago. The 30-minute video will feature original NASA footage, capturing the incredible journey of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins as they traveled to the Moon, explored its surface, and returned home.
Interactive Sky Show and Free Fall Sky Maps
Following the video, enjoy a short sky show with the Planetarium's star projector, and receive a Fall sky map (while supplies last) to enhance your stargazing experience. The event is free, and no reservations are required—seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each show has a capacity of 60 people, and to preserve the optimal viewing experience, there will be no late admittance once the show has begun.
Stargazing Under the Night Sky
If weather permits, after the last show at 8:30 p.m., there will be a free public stargazing event in the Connie Gotsch Theatre courtyard, located behind the Planetarium. The stargaze will last for up to an hour, and the waxing gibbous Moon will offer stunning views, along with Saturn and its rings. You may also catch sight of the beautiful Albireo double star, as well as deep-sky objects such as the Ring Nebula, the Wild Duck Cluster, and the Dumbbell Nebula, depending on weather conditions.
